The #1 concern of my clients and colleagues has always been customer acquisition and lead generation.

I’m sensitive to that concern! We’ve all been there. Whether you’re brand new in the business world or you’ve been around for a few years, everyone has a slow season or a lull. They’re icky. I ain’t gonna lie to you.

The most effective way to deal with this concern though doesn’t necessarily start with some common recommendations (all of which are still valuable and important)…

  • Boosting your business email list,
  • Using Twitter more than once every three days,
  • Investing in paid advertising,

…among other methods.

Truthfully, customer acquisition and lead generation starts in the mind of you, Entrepreneur. And there are two forces at work here.

How to Get More Sales

Force #1:

The REAL way to get more sales begins with examining your service menu. When was the last time you looked at that? Perhaps, it hasn’t been touched since your website began. Either way, open a blank Word Document and list all the service offerings you have.

Now, pull up your Quicken/Excel (whatever you use to track sales). Review the past 3 months. What has been selling?

For every sale in the past 3 months, place an X next to the corresponding service menu item in your Word Document.

What has the most Xs?

You’ve just found your most valued service offering.

Is it what you want it to be? Is this something you actually enjoy selling?

Force #2:

Now that you know what is selling, examine what isn’t.

Two things are possible regarding the services/products that don’t sell. They are either not being marketed correctly OR they are not what your target market wants.

To find out what your people want, go ask them. Seriously. Create a SurveyMonkey survey and ask people what they want to invest in. Get specific. Just make sure to keep it to no more than 5 questions.

Who is your target market? If you’re unsure, consider talking to me about it. This is a CRUCIAL step in lead generation.
