About Brianna
Brianna has had the privilege of working in dentistry for over 14 years. Her journey took a pivotal turn five years ago when she lost her mother after her long battle with sleep apnea at the age of 59. Her mother’s struggle opened Brianna’s eyes to the crucial role airway health plays in overall well-being, igniting a deep passion in her to spread awareness about airway care. Now, as Vice President of Experience at Toothpillow, she is honored to be part of a team that’s helping thousands of families access vital airway support. Every day, Brianna is driven by the mission to ensure no one has to face what her mother did, and she is committed to making airway health a priority for as many people as possible.
About the Episode
In this enlightening episode of Liz on Biz, Liz Theresa is joined by Brianna Reiser, Vice President of Toothpillow, to discuss the groundbreaking world of airway dentistry and its impact on children’s health, sleep, and even speech development.
What You’ll Hear In This Episode:
- What is Toothpillow?
- Brianna Reiser explains how Toothpillow is a virtual airway dentistry platform that provides access to guidance appliances (affectionately called “tooth pillows”) and myofunctional therapy for kids. These treatments help prevent sleep apnea and malocclusion (misalignment of teeth) by addressing the root cause—underdeveloped jaws and poor breathing habits.
- Understanding Airway Dentistry
- Learn what airway dentistry is and why it’s different from traditional approaches like braces.
- Why expanding the palate early on prevents future issues with teeth, breathing, and overall health.
- The connection between sleep apnea, narrow palates, and mouth breathing.
- The Dangers of Waiting Until Braces Age
- Brianna Reiser recalls the “old way” of pulling teeth to fit small palettes and why expansion first is now the gold standard for kids.
- Real-Life Stories
- Liz Theresa brings her husband on for a spontaneous in-episode “mouth check-up,” highlighting the clear connection between adult sleep apnea and childhood dental interventions.
- How Brianna Reiser’s own son’s behavior, sleep, and well-being improved dramatically after using Toothpillow.
- Surprising Signs of Airway Issues
- ADHD, bedwetting, restless sleep, teeth grinding, chronic ear infections, dark circles, stunted growth, depression/anxiety, and more can be linked to airway problems.
- Why so many kids need braces now compared to generations ago (hint: it’s our soft Western diets and lack of muscle development from chewing!).
- How Toothpillow Works (and Who It’s For)
- Kids aged 3–12 can get assessed with just a few photos—parents often see results in months.
- Teens and adults: A program is launching soon—join the waitlist!
- Tips for Parents
- It takes parental support and consistency for kids to wear the device nightly, but it’s worth it!
- Why you should look for an “airway dentist” (not just any dentist) if you suspect sleep or breathing issues.
